“I Will Miss a Race for It”: Lewis Hamilton Refuses to Make the Same Mistake Twice With Billion-Dollar Oath

Working in a Hollywood movie with Tom Cruise, flying fighter jets could be anyone’s dream. But for Lewis Hamilton, it was almost a reality. Almost. Keeping his priorities straight, he turned down an opportunity to work in Top Gun 2, which grossed $1.493 at the box office- but it remains one of his greatest regrets.

Hamilton had received the opportunity of a lifetime when Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski wanted to put him in Top Gun overalls for a small role. However, owing to the hectic F1 race schedule, Hamilton, a perfectionist, couldn’t be sketchy with his preparation. With shooting overlapping with the shooting schedule, it would’ve been impossible for Hamilton to give a 100% to both.

But now, should the telephone ring with another shot at starring in Top Gun 3, there is no way in hell Hamilton is saying no.

Lewis Hamilton promises to star in the next Top Gun

Ahead of the Spanish GP, Hamilton sat down to discuss his prospects in the world of film. After spilling details about his upcoming documentary on Apple TV+ and his ongoing project with Brad Pitt, Hamilton also delved into his dream of acting.

Hamilton confessed“I’ll wait for my proper movie debut because I’m going to need to train and practice because I don’t want to suck at it.”

Plagued by the regret of his missed Tom Gun cameo, Hamilton was determined in his response, “If Top Gun 3 ever happens, I’m going to be in it, and I will miss a race for it, just so you know. I’m not going to give up that chance next time.”

With a nagging sense of what if, Hamilton remains driven to fulfill his dream. Skipping a race is a big promise, but it looks like Hamilton plans on keeping it.

Hamilton narrates Top Gun heartbreak

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Lewis Hamilton narrated the painful turn of events that led him to make the decision to turn down Top Gun.

Hamilton has always been an adrenaline junkie. Even as a child, he watched Top Gun and was obsessed with the airforce. Thus, when the news broke that the franchise would grow, Hamilton jumped at the chance. “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I have to ask him’. I said, ‘I don’t care what role it is, I’ll even sweep something, be a cleaner in the back.'”

Cruise agreed to Hamilton’s demands, but he wouldn’t be no janitor. Instead, Cruise offered to dress Hamilton up as an elite pilot. Thus calls were made and the plan was set in motion. In another universe, Hamilton would be on the big screen, soaring through the skies and taking down bad guys. But, unfortunately, was forced to come face to face with his reality.
