Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer publicly declared his team’s goal of being at the Super Bowl on February 14, 2027.

“I want to win it for the people under my leadership,” Schotenheimer said. “I want to win it for Dak Prescott. I want to win it for CeeDee Lamb and Quinnen Williams, for your players that put in so much, you know, hard work, and the sacrifice that goes into what we do. You know, from us as a coaching staff, it’s the hours; it’s the mental strain of game planning. But for the players, they put their bodies on the line.”

He added, “I make no qualms that that’s the goal. The Super Bowl next year is Feb. 14th, 2027. We plan on being there.”

After discussing the target date on The Twins Take Podcast, Schottenheimer’s comments were published by NBC Sports.

Three Decades Have Passed Since Cowboys Appeared in Super Bowl

The Cowboys have not appeared in a Super Bowl since winning after the 1995 season. That is three decades of raised expectations, first-round exits, and front-office moves that never produced a return trip to the championship game. Dallas has also missed the playoffs in back-to-back years heading into 2026.

Schottenheimer was introduced as the franchise’s new head coach in January 2025. He became the 10th head coach in Cowboys history.

Dak Prescott has already set his own goal, declaring that reaching the postseason is the minimum acceptable outcome for 2026. Schottenheimer‘s Super Bowl comment trumps that.

Dallas Bolsters Roster for Super Bowl Bid

The Cowboys strengthened their roster this offseason with the signing of DT Quinnen Williams. That’s a valuable addition to a defense that needs improvement. The NFC, however, is loaded. The Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Rams are all legitimate conference-title contenders.

The Cowboys have the roster pieces to be competitive. Whether they have the depth, the coaching infrastructure, and the postseason execution to reach a Super Bowl remains to be seen.

Talk is Cheap, Performance Matters

Championship ambition is standard currency across the league when a franchise resets. For Schottenheimer, the 2026 regular season is an immediate referendum – not on the Super Bowl claim specifically, but on whether Dallas can at minimum avoid three consecutive playoff misses.

If the Cowboys make a deep postseason run, the February 14 comment becomes validated. If they miss the playoffs for a third straight year, no one will need to remind him that he said it.
