Terrion Arnold worked out for the Seattle Seahawks over the weekend, and head coach Mike Macdonald spent a good chunk of Monday’s press conference talking about it without actually committing to anything.

Macdonald confirmed that Arnold visited the team’s headquarters on Sunday and took part in a workout, but Seattle has not signed him, and nothing on the transaction wire suggests that’s imminent.

Macdonald described the visit in mostly positive terms while acknowledging the obvious complication hanging over it.

“It’s enough right now that we had him in for a great visit, a great tryout,” Macdonald said Monday, via video from Brian Nemhauser of Hawk Blogger. “It’s a situation where there are other things surrounding it, as well. We are aware of that. We’re working through the situation right now. But it was a great visit. I really enjoyed meeting him, and I think he enjoyed being here. So we’ll see where it goes.”

Macdonald isn’t denying interest, but he’s also not saying Seattle plans to sign a player facing eight felony counts, including armed robbery and kidnapping charges tied to an alleged incident in Tampa, Florida.

What Happens Next for Terrion Arnold?

A tryout is not a signing. It’s not even close. Teams bring in dozens of free agents for workouts every camp without ever adding them to the roster, and Macdonald’s answers Monday read like a coach keeping his options open rather than one closing in on a deal.

Seattle’s cornerback room has real questions beyond Devon Witherspoon, the three-time Pro Bowl pick who anchors the group.

Given how Macdonald has built the Seahawks’ culture around vetting character before talent, that background check matters more here than it would for a typical tryout addition.

Arnold is reportedly also visiting the New Orleans Saints this week. He’s scheduled for an arraignment hearing on Thursday in Tampa, where he’s expected to enter a formal plea.
