The NFL is finalizing its most ambitious international schedule to date for the 2026 season, headlined by a first-ever regular-season game in Paris and a return to Madrid.

The expansion brings the league’s global footprint to nine games across seven countries, testing the current ceiling of international play permitted under the collective bargaining agreement.

Paris Debut at Stade de France

The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints will meet at the Stade de France on October 25, 2026. The matchup marks the league’s official entry into the French market for a regular-season contest.

New Orleans will serve as the designated home team for the Week 7 game at the national stadium, which has an 80,000-plus capacity.

The selection of the Saints follows the franchise’s 2022 acquisition of exclusive marketing rights in France. The organization has spent the intervening years establishing broadcast ties and grassroots programs in a country that now counts more than 35,000 registered American football players.

The NFL has signaled a target of one million French fans by 2027, making this debut a primary pillar of its European growth strategy.

Pittsburgh returns to Europe for a second consecutive season following a 2025 appearance in Dublin. As the visiting team, the Steelers will play eight home games and nine road games during the 17-game 2026 season.

Bengals and Falcons Set for Madrid

The league also confirmed a Week 9 matchup in Spain, with the Cincinnati Bengals traveling to face the Atlanta Falcons at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on November 8, 2026.

This will be the Falcons’ fifth trip to Europe in six seasons, while the Bengals make their first appearance in Spain.

The venue, which hosted its first NFL game in 2025, remains a central part of the league’s long-term commitment to the Iberian Peninsula.

Global Schedule Logistics and Expansion

The full 2026 international slate includes nine games, an increase from five in the previous season. In addition to Paris and Madrid, the league will hold contests in London (three games), Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, Munich, and Mexico City.

  • Melbourne: Season opener featuring the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams on September 11.
  • London: Three games, split between Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium.

  • Rio de Janeiro: Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys on September 27.

  • Munich: Detroit Lions vs. New England Patriots on November 15.

  • Mexico City: The San Francisco 49ers will host the Minnesota Vikings on November 22.

The increase to nine games nears the current limit of ten international games allowed per season under the NFL’s current agreement with the players’ union.

League officials have expressed a desire to eventually expand this slate to 16 games annually, with rumors of a first game in India.

The full 2026 NFL schedule is scheduled for release on Thursday evening, providing final confirmation of remaining domestic matchups and broadcast windows.
