NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani could not let the moment pass quietly. After the New York Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday night, Mamdani went straight to social media for some trash-talking.
Moments after New York closed out Game 4 with a 130-93 blowout, Mamdani tagged the NYC Department of Sanitation on social media and posted: “I’d like to report a sweep.” The sanitation account fired back without hesitation: “CLEAN UP IN CLEVELAND!!”

The Series Result
With the Knicks not winning the NBA title since 1973, the chances for trash-talking have been limited over the years.
The Knicks’ sweep of the Cavaliers sends them to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 – a 27-year wait that has defined a generation of New York sports suffering. The 130-93 final in Game 4 was not close, capping a dominant postseason run that now stands at 11 straight playoff victories.

This is also the Knicks’ second consecutive postseason sweep, a level of dominance that nobody outside of New York predicted heading into April. New York will face the winner of the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder series in the Finals, with Game 1 scheduled for June 3. The Knicks’ dominant playoff run has been relentless from the opening round.
Who Is Zohran Mamdani
Mamdani is the 112th mayor of New York City, and he has made no effort to hide where his loyalties sit during this playoff run. He was spotted watching Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals from the nosebleeds at Madison Square Garden.
His trolling did not start with Cleveland, either. During the Knicks’ first-round matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, Mamdani was asked about playoff ticket prices and deflected with a line that circulated widely: “I blame Trae Young. I think it’s always important to blame Trae Young.” The sweep of the Hawks only set the stage for what was coming next.
The Knicks’ front office, for its part, has maintained strict political neutrality throughout – the organization has previously stressed it does not align with any political figure, including Mamdani. That hasn’t slowed him down in the slightest.
The Knicks now await the winner of Oklahoma and San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals, with the series tied at 2-2.
